If you’ve read my other posts, you probably know that most of what I read is Cozy Mysteries. But, that’s not the only thing I read. I also read classic literature, thrillers, non-cozy mystery/crime fiction, horror, fantasy, general fiction, and selected non-fiction subjects. Today I’m going to start a new category of blog posts dedicated to sharing some of my favorite books with you.
First up, one of my very favorite books is a classic novel that I feel like not a lot of people have heard of, and that is now out of print:

Title – The Moviegoer
Author – Walker Percy
Published – January 1960
The story focuses on John Bickerson Bolling (Binx to his friends), a stock broker from an old Louisiana family. Since returning from the war, he has spent most of his time going to movies and having affairs with his secretary. But now, right around Mardi Gras and when he is about to turn thirty, he decides to undertake a search for authenticity. His search causes familial tension and jeopardizes his already psychologically frail cousin, Kate.
If I remember correctly, I first read this book for a class I was taking, although I can’t remember if it was a high school class or a college class; nor can I remember if it was for a literature class or a philosophy class. I do remember feeling a strong connection to both Binx and Kate. It is that connection, more than anything else, that make this a favorite for me, and keeps me coming back to re-read it from time to time.
